Where your money goes
Swish Kids is a business, not a charity. You should be able to see what happens to every dollar you spend here, including the part that pays us. So here it is, line by line.
What each item sends
Every product carries a set amount that goes to Children's Hope India. Multiply it by what we sell and you have our total.
One hoodie, all the way down
Here is a $55 hoodie taken apart, using our real production costs. Every product prices differently, so treat this as the shape of it rather than a quote on any one item. Most of what you pay was never ours to begin with — it goes to the people who make the garment. Shipping is charged separately at cost.
The part people miss
On a $55 hoodie, $24.73 is ever really ours, and $2.75 of that goes out the door to Children's Hope India.
So when you hear 5%, that is 5% of the sticker price — but it is closer to 11% of what this business actually earns. The exact figures move product to product. The ratio does not move much.
Including us
Swish Kids is run by students. Nobody here takes a salary. After we cover costs and send the pledge, what is left does two things: it funds the next batch of product, and it goes into savings for our education.
Right now every item is made to order through Printify. That let us start without holding any inventory, but printing things one at a time is the most expensive way to make them, and it is the single biggest reason we cannot give more. Most of what you pay never reaches us or Children's Hope India — it pays to manufacture the garment.
So part of what we keep is being saved toward finding our own manufacturer and buying inventory in batches. Producing that way costs far less per item than made-to-order printing. The same hoodie at the same price would leave more room for the pledge, and we would rather grow the donation by lowering our costs than by raising yours. When that happens, the numbers on this page get updated and dated.
None of that is hidden because none of it needs to be. We are students, we are building a business, and some of what it earns goes toward our education. The numbers are above — you can decide what you think about that.
How the money moves
Four steps, every quarter, in the same order.
Every dollar we've sent
This table is the proof. Multiply the items by the pledge amounts above and the totals should match. If they do not, tell us.
Things we want to be clear about
- Swish Kids is a for-profit business. Buying from us is a purchase, not a donation, and it is not tax deductible.
- Children's Hope India is the registered 501(c)(3), not us. We send them money. How it is spent is governed by them.
- The checkout round-up is different. 100% of a round-up goes to CHI. We keep none of it and it is not counted toward our per-item pledge.
- Our costs will change. When the numbers on this page change, we will update them and note the date.
